Yesterday (21 March), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Georgia (GoG) signed US$ 48mn loan agreement. The loan will be used to improve the power transmission infrastructure in Georgia. The project envisages building new 220/110 KV power substation and rehabilitation of several substations to improve energy management and power dispatch. The project, which is planned to be finished by 2016, is expected to boost Georgia’s electricity export ability and to support growing regional power trade in the Caucasus region. This is the ADB’s first loan in the Georgia’s power sector, albeit the bank has already provided more than US$ 1bn loans for various projects in Georgia.
